My cliche thoughts on Mizzou's football season (in no particular order)
Huge bummer.
It was fun while it lasted, for that brief week. :) As exciting as it was, there was always this element of too good to be true. Missouri playing for a National Championship? Thrilling, yes. But seriously, where did that come from?
Let's give credit where credit is due. I mean, it wasn't our best game ever, but it also wasn't our worst. We just got beat, plain & simple. Props to OU's defense. They were impressive.
Heisman hopes thwarted. I am disappointed for Chase Daniel. I don't know if he would have won even if we had played for the championship, but he would have at least made it to NY. Pretty sure that won't be the case now. I guess, "there's always next year." Ugh. I hate that saying.
Forget the Alamo. No, I take that back. Learn from the Alamo! Hopefully this year will be the ground work for many more winning/"bcs bowl" years to come. Fact is, a higher expectation has been set. So, while i'm disappointed that we aren't headed to New Orleans, it was a GREAT season (well, I guess the season isn't officially over yet, but you know what I mean).
At some point can the BCS just say, "Sorry, there will be no National Champion declared this year. No one deserves it. We will chalk this year up to a complete WASH"?
To all you Tiger Fans south of here (the "other" Tigers, as we refer to them in our household), you are welcome! I guess what goes around, truly does come around.

Us "other" tiger fans do say thank you, and we also say you guys definitely got SCREWED!!!! How can you BEAT Kansas to go to the conference championship, lose, then they go ahead of you. The whole system is so messed up.
I agree. BCS is wacked. That is for another blog post to come. My vote is for a PLAYOFF SYSTEM.
So wacked that the team on the west coast(won't mention any names)still thinks they own a national championship from 2003/ I'm sure they wil find a way to "share" it again this year!!! =)
ooooh, them's fightin' words. Any Trojan fans out there want to respond? This could be fun. :)
did LSU play in a championship game in 2003? gosh, i can't remember.
After Christy's post I began to wonder what this LSU National Champs 2003 was all about. I couldn't remember that either....so I looked up the final AP poll in 2003 and this is what I found:
AP Top 25
1. USC (48) 12-1 1,608
2. LSU (17) 13-1 1,576
3. Oklahoma 12-2 1,476
4. Ohio State 11-2 1,411
5. Miami 11-2 1,329
6. Michigan 10-3 1,281
7. Georgia 11-3 1,255
8. Iowa 10-3 1,107
9. Washington State 10-3 1,060
10. Miami (OHIO) 13-1 932
11. Florida State 10-3 905
12. Texas 10-3 887
13. Mississippi 10-3 845
14. Kansas State 11-4 833
15. Tennessee 10-3 695
16. Boise State 13-1 645
17. Maryland 10-3 564
18. Purdue 9-4 526
19. Nebraska 10-3 520
20. Minnesota 10-3 368
21. Utah 10-2 308
22. Clemson 9-4 230
23. Bowling Green 11-3 189
24. Florida 8-5 165
25. TCU 11-2 126
I believe every football team playing D1 agreed to abide by the BCS and its rankings (including USC), so the AP really does not matter. Outside of USC, everyone else considers LSU the 2003 National Champion. So go ahead and hang your hat on that AP ranking. BTW, in the 2003 LSU beat OU who was ranked #1 all year to win the BCS while USC played a weak 3 lost big ten team that has not won a bowl game in 6 years. LSU won theirs on the field that year while USC won the media war - which do you want?
This is old news and us Tiger fans(LSU that is) have another BCS National Championship game to get ready for. Sorry for slow reply, I have been in Baton Rouge all week but my beautiful wife demanded I get on here to answer these terrible comments defaming the TIGERS.
Scott,
OK, here's my thing. Currently, how DID LSU find themselves playing for the national championship? How does a #7 ranked team move that far up in the rankings in one week? Obviously, #1 & #2 lost. But what about #4 (Georgia), #5 (Kansas), and #6 (VA Tech)? I'm not saying LSU doesn't deserve to be playing in the national championship game this year. And I would be BITTER if they gave it to Kansas. I understand why they wouldn't give it to Georgia seeing as they didn't even come in top two of SEC (how can you not be the best team in your conference and yet win a national championship). So, I understand why LSU is there and think, honestly, they should be. BUT what I don't understand is based on the BCS, how they got that ranking? From my limited knowledge, it seems that LSU is playing in the championship game this year BECAUSE of the media. That being said, your theory for 2003 doesn't stick (for me). If the AP pollers didn't matter (your words) in 2003, why do they matter now? Seems like AP polls REALLY helped LSU this year. So, either they matter, or they don't. But you can't have it both ways. :) Again, it all comes back to BCS is wacked. And I might mention that while you say 2003 is old news to LSU fans, ummmmm, I have to point out that your beautiful wife (my beautiful sister, whom I LOVE) :) brought this whole thing up!!! Solution: PLAYOFFS!
That's my wife! The only response I can think of is, "What she said!"
And just for the record, I will be rooting for LSU. Go "other" Tigers. Tia still does the "Go Tigers" cheer that Easton taught her.
