Cheesecake at the Plaza

My mom (aka "mama T") came and visited us for a couple weeks after Christmas. She was flying out of Kansas City so on the way to the airport we took a detour and checked out the plaza. Other than the airport and the Royals baseball stadium we haven't really explored Kansas City too much. But it seems like if you are ever talking w/anyone about KC they will ask if you've been to the plaza. We decided it was time to check it out, plus we found out there was a Cheesecake Factory there. . . We didn't have a whole lot of time but we thoroughly enjoyed our airport detour. We definitely want to head back to the infamous plaza when we have more time. Here are a couple of pictures of Caelleb & Mama T in front of the Cheesecake Factory!Caelleb was not ready for Mama T to leave. In fact, he tried everything he could think of to go with her! We finally had to explain to him that he didn't have a ticket so he couldn't get on the plane.

Caelleb: I use Mama T's ticket
Me: Mama T's ticket doesn't have your name on it. You need a ticket with your name on it. Sorry!
Caelleb: I write my name on there! I write my name on there!

My mom was definitely feeling loved, but I know it made the departure much more tearful, for all of us!

Angel Baby

Seriously, God knows. God knew that after losing Tia it would be hard for me to attach again to another child. God knew that after losing Tia, just getting through each day without her would be hard. . . So, what does He do? He gives us this little angel baby. OK, not only does this baby NEVER fuss, he is already sleeping through the night and he has a smile to DIE FOR.

Jamie is such a joy to parent. I can't imagine a sweeter little boy! Unfortunately, it is not looking like he will be with us forever. At this point, I can't really talk about this. A person's heart can only handle so much. . . My only solace at this point is that God knows. He knows my heart & He knows what I can handle. So, I am just going to praise Him for this beautiful little life that he has entrusted us with & enjoy him while we do have him.

Secrets & Fitting Right In

We were down in Louisiana when this picture was taken. Doesn't Jamie look like he just fits right in? :) There is a story behind the outfit & it involves a 6 year old secret. Read on. . .
So, in December of 2000 we were living in Monroe, Louisiana and I went to this craft fair. I saw this little camo outfit. It was so "louisiana." At that time we had only been married a year and a half. We had also been living in Louisiana for a year and a half and were still suffering culture shock! It would crack us up when NUMEROUS people would show up to church on Sunday morning decked out in camo. We never had to guess when deer or duck hunting season had started. . . Anyway, also at that time we had just decided to start "trying." Neither of us planned on living in Louisiana for that long but when I saw this outfit I thought it would be a great memory for where I thought our first child would be born. My idea was that I would use this outfit as a way to "tell" Bryndyn that we were pregnant. I hadn't quite figured out the exact perfect way to tell news of such great proportion but I figured whenever it was time for that it would be cool to have this outfit as part of the surprise. . . Fast forward 6 YEARS and that outfit was still hiding in the back of one of my drawers. I decided it was time. . . I wrapped it up and gave it to Bryndyn for Christmas. It was a big deal to me. I don't know why. I guess it's kind of silly. But I had been saving the outfit for so long. Under the Christmas tree to Bryndyn but for Jamie is definitely not how I had it all planned out six years ago. But it just seemed like the right thing to do. It fit Jamie perfect. I'm not giving up on someday getting pregnant. But in case I don't at least the outfit will have gotten some use. And how cute does he look in it? He wore it for the first time when we were in Monroe & FIT RIGHT IN! :) The gift meant a lot to Bryndyn as well. Its probably one of those things where only him and I truly get it. But I think what surprised him the most is that I kept a secret from him for SIX YEARS! Actually, that is pretty surprising to me as well! I don't dream too much these days about how i'll "tell" Bryndyn if/when I ever do get pregnant. At this point, if it happens, it will be HUGE enough in itself. . .

Easton Alan

This is my nephew, Easton. He was born on August 5, 2005. I had the priviledge of actually being in the delivery room when he was born. This was my first experience watching a child enter the world. It was AMAZING! What a miracle! Maybe this is why I feel a special connection to him? Or it could be because he was the first child that any of my siblings gave birth to? Or that his personality reminds me a lot of Tia? Or that he is just so darn adorable? Probably all of the above reasons PLUS the fact that he is just a riot! Seriously, my sister has quite the little character on her hands. I could just watch him all day and laugh. He is the funniest kid with such a great personality! I look forward to watching him grow and seeing how this little personality develops! In the meantime, I know that he is going to keep his parents on their toes! But he is such a sweet little boy and will always have a very special place in my heart!!! So, here's to the many faces of Easton. . .

Things that make you go hmmmm. . .

OK, for the record, yes, i'm still blogging about our trip down to Louisiana that happened OVER A MONTH AGO. I had way too many cute pictures to post. . .just no time to post them. . . Wait, why am I making excuses, this is MY blog! :) So anyway. . . the below picture is of the ceiling fan in my sister's living room. Why in the world am I posting a picture of a ceiling fan? Why do I even have a picture of a ceiling fan? Good questions. The entire week that we were down in Louisiana I could lay Jamie down on my sister's couch and he would just stare up at the ceiling and smile away. At first we all thought it was a fluke. 7 weeks old and already smiling? But seriously, this happened every day any time he was awake laying on my sister's couch. Finally, towards the end of our trip, Jamie was laying on the floor w/Bryndyn staring up at the ceiling smiling. . . So, I got down there right next to him and took this picture. I figured whatever it was about the ceiling that had him mesmerized was worth documenting. :) Who needs a mobile? Maybe we can just blow up this picture and mount it to his own ceiling. Kidding. Here are a couple more pictures of Jamie smiling at the ceiling. . .

Grandma Heaven

I'm not sure, but I think this is what "grandma heaven" might look like! :) 12/28/06 in Monroe, LA

Two Hearts

I often tell Caelleb what a sweet boy he is! Well over a year ago I was commenting on his sweetness and I jokingly said that maybe God gave him two hearts and that is why he is so sweet. Caelleb grinned from ear to ear at this idea. About a week ago at his yearly checkup the doctor was listening to his heart. While trying to make small talk w/Caelleb she asked him if he knew where his heart was located. First he pointed to the left side of his chest and then he pointed to the right side of his chest. His doctor told him that he had it right the first time and placed his hand over his heart on the left side. Without missing a beat Caelleb informed his doctor that he had TWO hearts. One on each side. She smiled but played along. He tells people this all the time that God gave him two hearts. It's adorable but i'm kinda worried about the day I have to break the one-hearted bad news. . .

I guess I need to slow down. . .

The other day Caelleb had a dr. apt. at 8:45 am. I took him into work w/me that morning to get a few things done before we headed to the dr. office. As always I was rushing around trying to do too many things at once and we ended up running late to his apt. I'm so used to being in "rush" mode these days that I didn't even realize how FAST I was driving (in a residential area, to make matters worse). All of a sudden I hear Caelleb yelling "WEEEEEE" from the back of the van. I look in my rear view mirror to see what he's doing and he has both of his hands raised up above his head like he's on a roller coaster. I slowed down. He said, "No mommy! Go fast! I wike roller coasters." Since then I have been trying to be a more responsible driving example to my son. . . We just happen to be late everywhere we go. Next I'll tackle trying to be a more prompt example. . .

More Bruscato Pics

Here are some more pictures of Isabelle Christine's entrance into our world. . .

You can see by the look on Easton's face that he's not so sure about his new baby sister. . .
He's already warming up to her. She is a lucky girl to have two great big brothers!!!

Do You Know Slow? :)

Caelleb is sick this morning. . . some kind of stomach issue. . . so, I have both boys in the office with me today (until Bryndyn relieves me at lunch). . . not fun! BUT he is still in a great, mellow mood which made for fun discussion this morning. Here are some tidbits from our morning banter:

We were heading down to the education wing of the church building to locate a tv for Caelleb to watch his movies on. We get to the teen room (which is where Bryndyn teaches the teens every Sunday morning--right across from Caelleb's class) and I start wheeling the TV out. Caelleb says: "Hey, what are you doing with Daddy's TV!" (like I was stealing it or something) :)

Then as we are pushing the TV down the hall it is loud & the baby was sleeping in his infant carrier on the other side of the hallway, where we were headed.

Me: this TV is LOUD
Caelleb: it gonna wake up baby
Me: when we get close to Jamie we'll just have to roll the tv very slowly so it won't be as loud.
Caelleb: I help. I know slow!

I don't know why, but talking to him just cracks me up! I would argue about whether or not he "knows" slow, but I love how his little mind works and he is always thinking of others and wanting to help.

Kind of random, but thought i'd share. These are the kind of things that I want to remember when he is a teenager and wants nothing to do with me! :)

Outnumbered

McCallister's is one of my FAVORITE places to eat in Monroe. It's a soup, sandwich & spud deli. They have sweet tea that is to die for! :) It's one of those in between fast food & restaurant places. You order at the counter they bring your food. Getting a table around lunch time is near impossible. Well, now imagine going there with a six year old, a five year old, a 17 month old, a 7 week old & a nursing 11 day old. No one in their right mind would attempt that. There were 4 of us adults but we were completely OUTNUMBERED! Let's just say that was the LAST time we took the kids to eat out while we were in Louisiana. We learned our lesson! :)

Finally, Uncle Bryndyn (who had been south of New Orleans with the teens from our church on a mission trip for Youth In Action) arrived and at least then it was even (5 adults, 5 kids). Phew. . . The kids were actually great--but still, I think all the adults were ready for a vacation by the end of the week. . . Fun times! :)

Cousins & Best Friends

I asked Caelleb once (trying to trick him) if Braden was his cousin OR his best friend. His response:
"mommy, he my cousin AND my best friend." Whenever the two of them are together they are INSEPARABLE! It is pretty amazing how well they play & get along. Every now and then they bicker like brothers but for the most part they absolutely adore each other.
This last trip down south was no exception. Honestly, we hardly saw the two of them. They just played and played like two peas in a pod! So cute. . .

Isabelle Christine

Introducing the newest "Tande" (ok, technically, Bruscato). . . My niece, Isabelle Christine, was born on December 19th, 2006 at 3:39pm to Lori & Scott Bruscato (and big brother's Braden & Easton). She weighed 7lbs, 8oz and was 20.25 inches long! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to be there for her birth (as I was for Easton's--which side note--was amazing), but we made a special trip down south two days after Christmas to meet her! She is adorable & such a sweet baby! Congratulations & welcome to this world, Isabelle! Even before you were born you had a TON of family members that couldn't wait to meet you and already loved you! Just remember that AUNT TAINA is your favorite aunt! :)

Keeping in Touch

December 26th, 2006

The day after Christmas we got to see some friends of ours that moved away from Columbia a few years ago. It was great catching up and seeing their adorable little one! After eating at one of our favorite restaurants (Flat Branch) we took the kids to Bonkers. . . (Side note: since we were leaving the next day for a week and my mom was in town we got to spend a few hours with Tia).

Later that evening Tia crashed out while laying w/me on the couch. . .

* Ooooh Ahhhh

So, there is this band called Grits. Their music is basically rap but their lyrics are Christian. Bryndyn got the kids (meaning Caelleb & Tia) hooked on one particular song. I don't actually even know the lyrics other than this one part that goes something like, "my life be like. . . ooooh ahhhh, ooooh ahhhh" and then repeats. Well, both kids love singing and dancing to this song. We could be anywhere with the kids and if one of us says, "my life be like," both kids will say, "OOOOH AHHHH OOOOH AHHHH." It is hysterical. Anyway, Tia was very upset about the fact that the fisher price mp3 player that she got on Christmas did not have this song on there. Classic!

Happy Birthday Jesus

Finally, my last Christmas entry (maybe). . . Again, it was weird not being with family. BUT we got to be with Tia which wouldn't have happened if we were on the west coast so that in itself made it worth it. First, we noticed that Santa had eaten ALL the cookies we had left out for him & his reindeer ate the carrots! They must have been hungry. Then, the kids opened their gifts which was fun to watch. We tried to take it slow. . . but Tia just went to town w/her gifts. It was pretty funny! She was so excited. Because Santa likes to support education he went w/writing the names in large permanent marker rather than the traditional gift tag. Not because he was lazy (well, ok, partly), but so that Caelleb could get some practice recognizing letters/names. Before they opened any gifts Caelleb went through and separated the presents. It was good practice! :)
Bryn and I recently got mp3 players and Caelleb ALWAYS wants to use ours. Santa looked and looked and LOOKED everywhere for a kid's mp3 player for him, (translation: a CHEAP one) and finally found one at Toys R Us. He loved it! We put the *Ooooh Ahhhh song on there as well as a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse CD that had the "hot dog" song. He was in heaven! I also bought one for Tia that I found at Toys r Us. It was a fisher price one for toddlers. It already had songs programmed on there, it wasn't one where you could program your own. She put the headphones on and said, "Ooooh Aaaah." When I told her that song wasn't on there she was done w/her fisher price mp3 player. . . Too funny!
She did LOVE the kitchen that Santa brought her. Just for the record, Santa would like everyone to know that he worked VERY hard putting this particular kitchen together. Unfortunately, the elves could not put it together ahead of time which meant Santa stayed very late at the Crutcher home--and finally just left it up to daddy to finish up. Daddy ended up being up until 4am--YES, that is 4AM central time, putting this beautiful kitchen together. Santa apologizes to the kids who got their presents LATE while he was working on Tia's kitchen. BUT, his reasoning was that Tia really WAS a good girl this year--so it was worth it to see the joy on her face on Christmas morning!
Another tradition is getting a dvd in your stocking every year. This year Tia got Wiggles and Little Mermaid. Caelleb got Charlotte's Web, 1 & 2 (cartoon version, did you know there is a charlotte's web 2?), and J got Baby Einstein! :) The week before Christmas we took Caelleb to see the new Charlotte's Web that just came out. He LOVED it! In fact, he liked it so much that he made a last minute request to Santa for a spider. Lovely! I informed Caelleb that real spiders were not allowed in our house, but maybe Santa would bring him a pretend spider. Finding a spider proved MUCH harder than Santa would have thought. In fact, Santa did finally find the perfect spider (i'll get a pic up of it later), but not until Dec. 23rd, thanks to walmart. I was all excited to give Caelleb the mp3 player that I found--but what did he ask Santa for? A SPIDER! All boy! Good news is Santa found one for the low price of $1.50!!!! :)
By the way, if this tree looks a little different than the tree in earlier posts that would be because it IS different. . . In the years past we have cut our tree down at this tree farm right around the corner from our house. This year it was too cold & we were lazy so we got one from Walmart. We will NEVER do that again. Mid way through Decemer it was already dying, no matter how much water we gave it. By Dec. 22nd it was a FIRE HAZARD. When we explained this to Caelleb his face just dropped. . . Christmas w/o a tree was just not an option. SO, on Dec. 23rd while Caelleb was sleeping Bryn bought a fake tree and made the switch. We will always have a real tree up for Christmas--but maybe next year we will be in a house w/a basement and this one will be good for a second tree. Caelleb didn't know the difference! As long as there was some sort of tree up he was good! :)
After opening presents, we sang Happy Birthday to Jesus and had a piece of His birthday cookie cake (a tradition we started last year). Then we had a yummy breakfast together and had to take Tia back to her mom's place. It was a great Christmas eve-day up until that point. I think being that it was Christmas I was even more emotional than normal when doing the drop off. . . But, looking back, I am so thankful that we got to spend as much time as we did with her! It was a very Merry Christmas!

Traditions

Growing up, Christmas Eve was filled with many traditions. When I was REALLY little my whole family would spend the night at my grandmother's house (on my mom's side) on Christmas Eve so we could all wake up together on Christmas morning. And when I say my whole family I don't just mean my immediate family. My mom is one of 8 siblings and most EVERYONE would be there. I have no idea where everyone slept? All I remember is that was the tradition. I was a kid and I LOVED being there there w/all my aunts, uncles and cousins. I think one of the traditions that started during that time period was that we all got to open ONE present on Christmas Eve--probably just so the adults could curb our excitement a little and get us kids to go to sleep. Eventually there were too many of us and this tradition ended. At that point my immediate family began creating traditions of our own for Christmas Eve. Every Christmas DAY we would still go to my grandmother's house and spend the day w/our large extended Blazej Family. But Christmas Eve became about us, the Tande's (Alan, Nita, Taina, Brian, Lori & Kevin). We almost always did the following three things on Christmas Eve (though not always in the same order): Dinner Out (somewhere nice), a movie, and the Candlelight service at church. Usually sometime before the late candlelight service, we still got to open one gift. Eventually, this evolved into the same "type" of gifts every Christmas Eve. We always got a new pair of pj's, and then at some point we also started getting candles. This evolved into pj's and ornaments (how many candles does one person need?). I so appreciate the ornament part of this tradition as I now have those ornaments on my tree! Nowadays we don't always go see a movie (last year we were in So Cal and we went to see the lights on the house on Sycamore in lieu of the movie) or make it to the late night church service (w/small children), but we do always enjoy a dinner together and then open our pj's and ornaments! :) This year there was only ONE exception. . . For the 1st time since we've been married (this was our 8th Christmas together) we did not travel to the west coast for our Christmas Holiday. We missed our extended families very much! But it did make for a much less stressful Christmas. Traveling around that time of year is just hard. . . Anyway, this left the traditions up to ME! There was no movie (w/a two year old. . .ummmm no) or a late night church service, but we DID go out to dinner, just us Crutcher's, and then came home and the kids got to open two presents. You guessed it. PJ's and ornaments! Some traditions die hard! :) The Christmas PJ's were adorable and I found the cutest ornaments for them. Caelleb got a marshmallow football guy, Tia got a cell phone, and baby J got a snow globe that said, "baby's first Christmas."

Tia wanted to open more than two presents. . . All in all it was very weird being in Missouri without extended family around but I had a great time keeping the traditions going and making some new traditions of our own (gingerbread houses). AND I learned something about traditions. Maybe the BEST thing about a tradition is that when it is continued through the years not only does it create wonderful memories but it helps you feel connected to the other people in your life that you have experienced the tradition with--no matter how many miles apart you are! Whether we are in Simi Valley, Newport, Sacramento, Columbia or who knows where. . . here's to many more Christmas Eve's filled w/pj's and ornaments. Maybe eventually we'll be able to throw the movie/candlelight service back in there! :)
