We have had a very relaxing yet productive weekend. I have lots of pics to get up of Thanksgiving, cutting down our Christmas tree, decorating our tree, etc.
But, FIRST THINGS FIRST! It is halftime of the MU vs. KU football game and things are looking good for TIGER FANS!!!!!
Let me back up a little. . . Bryn and I spent our undergraduate (and graduate for Bryn) years at a wonderful university, but one with no football team. Then we moved to Louisiana for my graduate studies. While ULM did have a football team, it wasn't exactly the big-time college football experience. Let's put it this way, when the local rival high school football teams played each other, there were more fans in attendance at the high school game then at ULM's games. Enough said. So, then we move to MIZZOU territory. Early on that first fall we were here we decided to check out the football scene. OH MY GOSH! One game & we were HOOKED! Thanks to some friends of ours who gave us many of their unused season tickets we didn't miss a home game that year. The next couple years we got free tickets to all the games since Bryn was a high school football coach. We were in attendance at the '03 infamous MU victory over Nebraska. Now that small children are involved we watch the games from our living room, most of the time. But still, big MU fans. We learned very quickly that Kansas was our biggest rival.
Still, while we love Tiger football, they've never been a BCS contender (since we've lived here at least). So, when it comes to picking a favorite for a national championship (since we are CA natives) we've been rooting for USC. My sister married into a die-hard LSU Tigers family and she has been fully converted. :) Anyone who follows college football knows that in the last few years a HUGE new rivalry has formed. . . USC vs. LSU. So, while we are always rooting FOR the Missouri Tigers we are also always rooting AGAINST the LSU Tigers (sorry Scott).
Well, here's where it gets crazy. USC choked pretty early on this season. LSU has held onto the #1 ranking most of the year. Missouri, yes, MISSOURI is currently ranked #4 in the NATION. They are also CURRENTLY beating the #2 ranked KU team. (there are 10 min. left in the 3rd quarter as I type). IF we can finish off Kansas tonight, then we will play Oklahoma for the Big 12 championship. One game at a time, I know, BUT IF we can also beat OK, the MISSOURI TIGERS will be playing for a national championship. We thought maybe it could be a TIGERS vs. TIGERS showdown but LSU lost yesterday in triple overtime to Arkansas. Regardless, we are talking about the national championship and MISSOURI is in the hunt. They control their own destiny. CRAZY!!!!
OK, enough said. Turning my computer off so I can focus on the game!
Currently 9 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and the score,
Mizzou -- 21
Kansas -- 0
Stay tuned. . .
